You already know which campaigns make your phone ring. CallRail tells you that a Google Ads click, a Local Services Ads listing, or an organic search visit turned into a call, plus the exact keyword, campaign, and landing page that got it there.
But the phone ringing isn’t the finish line. What happens after the call? Did someone follow up? Did the lead turn into a paying customer? And which of your marketing channels is actually producing revenue, not just calls?
To answer those questions, your call data needs to live alongside the rest of your sales process. That’s why CallRail now integrates natively with Nutshell, the all-in-one CRM built for small and growing businesses. Now every tracked call automatically becomes a contact and a lead in Nutshell, complete with its marketing attribution and conversation summaries.
The gap between the call and the close
CallRail closes the attribution gap, but for many businesses, a second gap opens up the moment the call ends.
Someone jots the caller’s name on a sticky note. Someone else types it into a spreadsheet, or into the CRM, if they remember. The campaign that generated the call gets left behind in CallRail. By the time the lead closes (or goes cold), nobody can connect that outcome back to the marketing that started it.
That second gap is expensive. Leads slip through the cracks when nobody’s responsible for following up. And without a line from marketing source to closed deal, you’re still optimizing for cost per call instead of cost per customer, which means a channel that drives lots of calls that never convert can look better than one that quietly drives your best customers.
What is Nutshell?
Nutshell is a CRM and marketing platform that helps small and midsize businesses turn leads into customers without the complexity of enterprise software. More than 5,000 companies use Nutshell to organize their contacts, manage their sales pipeline, and make sure no follow-up gets missed.
Here's what Nutshell brings to the table:

How the CallRail x Nutshell integration works
Setup takes just a few minutes. In your CallRail integration settings, enter your Nutshell email address and Nutshell API key. CallRail automatically finds your Nutshell account and verifies the connection, with no developer or middleware required.
From there, the integration runs on its own.
Each time a tracked call finishes processing in CallRail, the integration:
1. Checks Nutshell for an existing contact. CallRail searches for the caller by phone number, then by email, so you don’t duplicate repeat callers.
2. Creates or updates the contact. If the caller is already in Nutshell, CallRail updates their record with their latest name, phone number, and email. If they’re new, CallRail creates a contact for them automatically.
3. Creates or updates a lead. CallRail finds or creates a lead in Nutshell linked to that contact, so every call has a place in your pipeline.
4. Adds a note with attribution and a call summary. A note on the lead captures the call’s first-touch attribution (source, medium, campaign, and landing page), along with an AI-generated summary of the conversation from CallRail’s Premium Conversation Intelligence™.
5. Fills in attribution fields (optional). If you create a few custom fields in Nutshell, CallRail populates them with the call’s source, medium, campaign, landing page, and CallRail ID. This gives you structured attribution data you can use in your Nutshell filters and reports.
Bonus: Voice Assist recognizes Nutshell contacts
If you use Voice Assist by CallRail, it can look up callers in Nutshell in real time. When a known contact calls and your team can’t pick up, Voice Assist can greet them by name and skip the intake questions they’ve already answered. Returning customers get a more personal experience, even after hours.
Why CallRail and Nutshell work better together
No more manual data entry
Every tracked call becomes a contact and a lead in Nutshell automatically. Your team stops copying names and numbers from one tool to another, and no caller gets lost between the phone and the follow-up.
Faster, better-informed follow-up
Because each call arrives in Nutshell with an AI-generated summary, your team knows what the caller needed before they pick up the phone to follow up. There’s no need to replay the recording or ask the customer to repeat themselves. Once the lead is in Nutshell, your pipeline and follow-up automation can take it from there.
Cost per customer, not just cost per call
With CallRail’s attribution attached to every lead, you can follow each call all the way through your Nutshell pipeline. That means you can see which sources, campaigns, and landing pages produce leads that actually close, and what those deals are worth. If you set up the optional attribution fields, you can filter and report on your Nutshell leads by CallRail source and campaign.
One complete record for every lead
The campaign that sparked the first call, the conversation itself, every follow-up email, and the final deal all live on the same record in Nutshell. Anyone on your team can see the whole story without switching between tools.
Smarter marketing spend
When you can connect marketing to revenue, budget decisions get a lot easier. Put more budget behind channels that bring in customers, and cut back on the ones that only bring in calls.
